A Medicare Supplement policy also referred to as Medigap Insurance, is offered by private insurance companies to fill the gaps or pay the deductibles not covered by Medicare. There are ten standardized Medigap plans called
Medicare Supplement Insurance can only be purchased by people 65 years of age and older, or people on disability. Medigap policies cover most, if not all, of the Medicare coinsurance deductibles. Depending on which plan you choose some policies cover additional benefits to fill more of the gaps in your Medicare plan. Medicare Supplement insurance is a fee for service plan without restrictive networks such as those offered by HMO's. You have freedom of choice with all doctors and you do not need a referral to see a specialist. There are no health questions to answer to enroll and pre-existing conditions are covered immediately if existing coverage of any type of health insurance existed within 2 months prior to applying. These plans offer coverage anywhere within the United States.
